County Board Candidate Debate on the Arts – August 13:

Embracing Arlington Arts, in partnership with Arlington Independent Media, hosted a County Board Candidate Forum on the Arts in Arlington last month. It was a standing room only crowd of very energetic arts supporters. Thank you everyone who came out to listen to the candidates discuss the arts. It was uplifting to hear both for them stress the importance and positive impact the arts have in Arlington. To watch the forum in its entirety, click here.

Media Hits:

Two media outlets picked up our story about the Arts Forum. InsideNova covered the upcoming event in this story. ArlNow did a story following the event which can be found here.

Also, we are excited to announce that starting on September 10, Embracing Arlington Arts will be publishing biweekly “Community Post” columns in ArlNow. Every two weeks another Arlington arts organization will be given the opportunity to publish a column about their organization, upcoming productions or whatever else they want to promote for FREE. It will be a wonderful marketing opportunity and a prime example of how Embracing Arlington Arts is trying to assist and give more visibility to our many quality arts organizations. We especially want to send many, many thanks to our sponsor – Washington Workplace – for allowing us to pursue this initiative.

Radio Show on WERA 96.7FM:

We were so pleased to have three of our Celebration Sponsors on the Embracing Arlington Arts radio show this past month. First, we conducted a very interesting discussion with d’Andre Willis, an architect and principle at the HGA firm about the unique expertise of designing performing arts theaters and museums, as well as their latest project out at Tysons. We also had the Ballston BID Executive Director Tina Leone on the show and heard about future plans and events for the BID, as well as her vision for arts in Ballston. Today at 3:00 pm I will be talking to Mary Schnider and Marty Schnider, from the Fred Schnider Investment Group who will be talking about their company and the wonderful Fred Schnider Gallery of Art they opened on Quincy Street. (You can listen in here.)

We also talked with Mark Bower and Todd Daniel from the band “The Walkaways” who will be performing at our Oct. 4 Celebration. They shared some their songs on the air so we could all get pumped up about their performance at our event. Finally, I was honored to invite to the studio one of the lead actresses performing now at Signature Theatre’s production of “Passion” Natascia Diaz. It was a wonderfully insightful chat about her career and unique experience playing Rita in West Side Story. To listen to these interviews, or any others in the past, follow this link.
