Embracing Arlington Arts Organization:

Our organization – Embracing Arlington Arts – is moving ahead on several fronts to formalize and move the entity forward. We have begun the application process for becoming a 501c(3) non-profit organization and will soon be looking for Board members and other leadership positions. If you want to help out in any way, please let us know. We need all kinds of talent! In addition, we have begun building our website and it should be up and running very soon.

Media Hits/Community Posts:

We are so indebted to our underwriter Washington Workplace for sponsoring our subscription to ArlNow to allow Arlington arts organizations to publish a Community Post column for free. With a readership of around 250,000, this is a wonderful marketing tool for groups to get the word out about upcoming productions, events, fundraisers or whatever else they want to promote. So far, Embracing Arlington Arts (link to column), Bowen McCauley Dance (link), Jane Franklin Dance (link), and the Arlington Players (link) have had columns published. Stay tuned to the ArlNow Community Post columns to see more from Arlington arts organizations.

Radio Show on WERA 96.7FM:

I have had some really good guests on the show over the last several weeks. First, we had the two co-founders of the dance troupe Company Danzante (Katherine Horrigan and Arturo Garcia) talk about the story of how their company was founded and some upcoming performances. We also chatted with Director Matt Bannister and lead actress Brianna Goode about the haunting play “Tape” presented by Dominion Stage.  Then just in time for the Oct. 5 Arts Celebration Mike Katrivanos from our beer partner New District Brewing Company talked about Valley Fest being held in the Shirlington neighborhood.

Switching gears, I was so pleased that DC5 Fox News Reporter (and costume contest judge) Anjali Hemphill joined me to talk about not only what she would be looking for in a winning costume, but also how the arts have positively impacted her both personally and professionally. Returning to our Celebration sponsors, I learned so much from CSR Communications Founder and President Nancy Murphy about strategic planning for non-profit arts organizations.

A very uplifting show followed when Bill Hopkins and Michael Burke joined me to talk about their wonderful Anderson-Hopkins Theatre Award for Excellence that gives financial awards to regional DC theater professionals who make our lives so much richer and fuller. Finally, visual artist Marc Robarge joined me to talk about his unique approach to artworks – that of combining nature into his sculptures.
