Update from Embracing Arlington Arts
Dear Arts Patrons, Aficionados and Supporters,
Thank you to everyone who attended our 1st Annual Celebration of the Arts in Arlington co-hosted by Embracing Arlington Arts and Arlington Independent Media! We sincerely hope that you thoroughly enjoyed yourselves, that you got to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones, were able to sample all the food and drink, and enjoyed the tableaux and concert by Jumpin’ Jupiter! And those many costumes were truly fabulous and made the night so colorful and vibrant! We have lots of pictures on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/EmbracingArlingtonArts/). Even if you do not have an account for yourself, you can still view these pictures.
Our goal is to make this Celebration an annual event because the arts and culture are so important to our County so we certainly want feedback from those who were there – what worked, what did not work, suggestions for entertainment or themes, and anything else you want to share.
And because without them we could not have had such a great event, we want to do another “shout out” and thank you to the financial sponsors and restaurant donors to the Celebration.
Financial Sponsors:
Curator Level Sponsorship
Artistic Level Sponsorship
Ballston BID, Clark Construction, and Dante, Inc. (which manages the Ouli App).
Apprentice Level Sponsorship
Arlington Community Federal Credit Union, Brock Realty, CSR Communications, Just Hoops Basketball Academy, Neighborhood Restaurant Group (which owns Rustico and Buzz Bakery), and Schupp Companies.
Restaurant/Beverage Sponsors:
We are so honored with the overwhelming support we have received from our Arlington restaurants and beverage establishments with 20 participating entities. Please try to patronize them and express your thanks!
Alexandria Restaurant Partners (which owns Palette 22), Ambar (which also own Baba Bar), Bistro 1521, Bistro 360, Cheestique in Ballston, Fire Works Pizza; Heavy Seas Alehouse, Mike Isabella’s Arlington Restaurant Kapnos (Isabella also owns Yona and Pepita), Lebanese Taverna, Nando’s Peri Peri, Pancho Villa, Stageplate Bistro; Sushi-Zen, Uncle Julios, and Whitlow’s on Wilson.
Delicious desserts were provided by Bayou Bakery, Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe, and Portabellos.
Beverages were graciously provided by Barefoot Winery and New District Brewing Company. Also as a beverage sponsor is Total Wine.
Finally, thanks to the Arlington Arts organizations that performed tableaux for the attendees:
Bowen McCauley Dance, Educational Theatre Company (ETC), Encore Stage and Studio, Jane Franklin Dance, and National Chamber Ensemble.
What’s Next?
Not only will Embracing Arlington Arts be busy organizing a bigger and better 2nd Celebration of the Arts in Arlington over the next year, but we also have several initiatives and projects in the works (some of which might need some “citizen letters of support”), including an infrastructure campaign, as well as a more proactive media outreach. In order to stay abreast of all developments and help keep the arts and culture as vibrant as possible in the County, please “like” and “follow” us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/EmbracingArlingtonArts/), and follow us on Twitter (@JanetKope, #EmbracingArlingtonArts). We will also continue these monthly “emailings”. Please encourage your friends, peers and colleagues to also follow us or sign up for this newsletter.
Another initiative we started (and will continue) is a weekly Embracing Arlington Arts radio show on WERA 96.7 FM (or listen online at wera.fm) every Tuesday at 3:00 pm during which a different arts organization, artists or other arts expert will be interviewed. So far, we have featured Signature Theatre, Synetic Theater, Encore Stage and Studio, Potomac Harmony Chorus, Dominion Stage, WSC Avant Bard and Bowen McCauley Dance. If you want to listen to any of these past shows, go here. We also have some dignitaries and well-known names expected on the show in the next couple of months so be sure to keep tuning in.
Calendar of Events
To keep our arts supporters on top of all the great events, performances and events happening in Arlington and provided by our Arlington Arts organizations and artists, we have put together a comprehensive calendar of events. Attached is the entire calendar (for those who like to plan ahead); below are the next three months. We will keep this calendar updated and will continue to send out three months’ worth to our email list.
