Democratic County Board Candidate Forum on the Arts in Arlington

Embracing Arlington Arts hosted a Democratic County Board Candidate Forum on the State of the Arts in Arlington. All six contenders were present and we had a full house of attendees. Six questions from the audience were asked, along with opening and closing statements by each candidate. All six participants cited the large number of empty retail spaces as opportunities for artist studios, performing arts venues and/or other arts-related entities.

Embracing Arlington Arts Talks” Podcast:
We hit several arts genres during April on the podcast. We started the month learning about the many pro bono services the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts provides those in the Creative Economy from the organization’s Executive Director John Good. The following week, Matthew Powell, the Artistic Director of Ballet Nova gave us all the details about their new production of the first comedic ballet ever created “Coppelia” whose main character just happens to be a mechanical doll.

Next we headed to Dominion Stage and heard from Director Dani Guy and Actor Cam Shegogue about their upcoming production of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” We finished off the month on a high note finding out about the new format and evening for the Helen Hayes Awards Ceremony on May 22, 2023 from Theatre Washington Board member Shanara Gabrielle and Host Christopher Michael Richardson.
