Embracing Arlington Arts Hosting Candidate Forum on the Arts in Arlington
We will be hosting a Democratic County Board Candidate Forum on the State of the Arts in Arlington. All six contenders will be present – Maureen Coffey, Susan Cunningham, Jonathan Dromgoole, Julius D. Spain, Natalie Roy and Tony Weaver. Our goal is to learn each candidates’ pledges to support the arts, ensure arts organizations’ and artists’ concerns are heard, and what initiatives they will spearhead to put cultural equity, diversity and vibrancy on the list of priorities.
The forum will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Theatre on the Run (3700 South Four Mile Run, Arlington, VA 22206). Due to limited seating capacity, registration is required. RSVP to janetk@embracing-arlington-arts.org.
Audience members will be offered the opportunity to submit questions to the six contenders. Click here for the event flyer.

Embracing Arlington Arts Talks” Podcast:
To start off the month of February, we met and chatted with the Assistant Artistic Director at Jane Franklin Dance Kelsey Rohr who told us all about their collaborative dance event being held at the Mason Exhibitions Arlington Gallery. Up next we learned about a relatively new company NOVA Nightsky Theater from one of the founding producers Ward Kay and got all the details about their original production of “Mr. Taken” from director AJ Campbell.
The following week we were so excited to sit down with Synetic Theater’s new Managing Director Ben Cunis to hear about his goals for the organization, as well as hear about their unique production of “Beauty and the Beast.” Rounding out the month was another “newbie” – Signature Theatre’s new Associate Artistic Director Ethan Heard who told us about his background, as well as gave us the scoop on the upcoming production of “Pacific Overtures.”

Media Hits:
Due to numerous software issues at ArlNow, we had to end our subscription for Community Post columns. (We are looking for other media opportunities that would allow us to help arts organizations obtain more visibility. If you have any suggestions, please let us know.) Jane Franklin Dance was able to submit one last column that gave details about their collaborative event at the Mason Exhibitions Arlington gallery.
